This is a Primate safari that take you to tracking gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and Chimpanzees in Nyugwe Forest National Park. Stay in mid-range and luxury accommodation. Day 1. Arrival
You will arrive at kanombe international airport in Kigali.After completion of immigration and customs formalities a representative of our agency (Guide/driver) will meet, greet and transfer you to your accommodation.
Day 2. Kigali City tour – Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast you will do a brief city tour. The City tour of Kigali gives the outsider an opportunity to see Kigali Commercial, administrative, cultural and Residential areas. This includes the Kigali Genocide Museum that is at the heart of every Rwandan, the Nyamirambo , Kigali market is one that shows a typical local goods market, and the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre shows some of the collections from the colonial times.
Start for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, make stops at places of interest including local markets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. In Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest
Day 3. Chimpanzee trekking
Nyungwe Forest National Park is the park in southern part of Rwanda. The park and the forest are famous for the canopy walk, the only one of its kind in East Africa as well as chimpanzee tracking in the nearby Cyamudongo Forest. Go for chimp tracking in Nyungwe Forest, the largest in Central Africa. Rest of the day at leisure.
Day 4. Nyungwe Forest to Volcanoes National Park
Today, you will leave after breakfast and drive back to Kigali or pass via Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. Drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known.[Approximate driving time: 7 hours including refreshment times]
Day 5. Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to the Park Headquarters for briefing by the guides before heading for gorilla tracking in the park. Tracking can be hard and challenging hence requires physical fitness of the participants. Parc National des Volcans is a forest with hilly sceneries, steep slopes and swamps can make tracking a hard and tiring experience. Tracking can take as long as up to 9 hours of a walk in the forest searching for the gorillas. However an hour of interaction with this closest relatives to human the rare endangered species is indeed a rewarding experience.
Day 6. Volcanoes National Park - Choice of activities - Kigali
Morning at leisure.
OR optional activities in Parc National des Volcans on payment of extra: either track gorillas a second time ($750pp), track the golden monkeys ($110), climb Visoke volcano ($105), climb Mount Muhabura ($70), visit Dian Fossey’s Research center and grave ($90pp), Musanze caves visit ($60pp), visit a local Women’s project ($40pp), do a nature walk in the park ($50pp), or simply stroll around the local communities, local markets and relax at the lodge (free).
