Day 1. Arrive Kigali and Overnight Musanze
You will be met by Rwagasabo Safaris driver/guide at the Kigali International airport. You will take part in a debriefing about the safari then drive to and overnight at the hotel Virunga (you may choose to sleep in Kigali depending on Time arrived at the airport).
Day 2. Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast you will drive to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival you will take part in a presentation on The Golden Monkey and a briefing by the Volcanoes National Park guides. We encourage trekkers to be physically fit and healthy. It is also important to wear good hiking boots, long trousers and gloves for protection against stinging nettles. You should bring snacks and sufficient drinking water as the trek is strenuous and the rainforest gets hot and humid during the day. You will spend one hour with the Golden Monkeys, but it is an hour you will never forget! After the visit, you will return to your hotel for lunch and later enjoy dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 3. Community based activities
After Breakfast you will take part in a visit to Twin Lakes Burera and Ruhondo then return for lunch at the Hotel before proceeding to the Community Based Activities. These activities provide interaction with the local village people and includes activities you can take part in such as talking with ex-poachers, learning about culture, marginalized people, agriculture, traditional healing, nature walks, and bird watching. An expert guide is provided for these activities in order to maximize the tour.
Day 4. Lake Kivu Boat ride
After breakfast you will take off for a morning boat ride or Kayaking on Lake Kivu. On the cruise you will have the chance to see a variety of birdlife and different water animals on the lake shore. You will also visit the Hot Springs and then return to the hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 5. Kigali
You will be picked up at your hotel and driven back to Kigali, with the short visit to the Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi. At this stop, you will also have time for interaction with local people discovering their artisanal products for sale. You will then transfer towards Airport / your hotel in Kigali.
